Trader Joe’s News — When are Brandy Beans Arriving?

Just when you thought 2020 couldn’t get any worse!

According to an official memo released by Trader Joe’s, “No Brandy Beans in 2020 due to labeling issues. Brandy Beans will be returning in 2021.” What? Could it really be true?

For over 15 years Trader Joe’s has stocked the shelves with this specialty chocolate from Germany. My mother is a German immigrant and we always enjoyed these during the holidays.

My heart sank as the crew member reported the news to me over the phone. The first time I called several weeks ago TJ’s was expecting their shipment around November 15th. Then, several days later it was unclear if the chocolates would be making their annual appearance in 2020. The crew at my local store said they were working out “labeling issues due to each state having different alcohol regulations.” Was this a state issue then?

I wasn’t giving up yet, after all — it’s Brandy Beans were talking about! I would buy several boxes each year and give them as gifts, add them to my coffee or hot chocolate and enjoy the melted bliss. Maybe this only affected the West Coast where I live? Maybe I could have one of my friends in New York mail me some?

I called a store in NYC and they also confirmed the dire news. Brandy Beans were officially canceled this year. There are other so-called “boozy chocolates” and the chocolate liquer cherries. But they don’t compare to my beloved Brandy Beans and I know many of you feel the same.

Just another causality of 2020!
